Below is the research paper that Mike Phinney, David Lewis, and I wrote in the 2010 mathematical modeling competition. We ended up receiving a rating of successful entry. Our goal was to change the shape of the current snowboard half pipe to maximize that air the boarder would get. As you read through it, you can see some of the math we did, as well as the graphics used to illustrate our results. I got my help from the paper "The Fibonacci Numbers-- Exposed" by Dan Kalman and Robert Mena. Enjoy the paper!
